*speaking softly* Good morning, happy Sunday!
I’m tucked near a window, sipping on my vanilla oat coffee, packing for my crosscountry road trip to Miami, and realized I hadn’t sent out a newsletter this week. It’s a soft weekend morning, so let’s keep it cozy, eh?
Pour a hot bevy, take a sip, and dive into a quick hit of outdoor advocacy learnings and easy actions to cap your weekend with a little activism:
ICYMI: Last week, lawmakers in the House unanimously voted to advance the EXPLORE Act, which is a package of outdoor policy protecting public lands and expanding outdoor recreation access. Our friends at Outdoor Alliance have an action tool to get you educated and help you write a letter to your reps in support.
There was a huge win for climate, according to my friends at Climate Power, who e-mailed me about the Biden Administration blocking a massive fossil fuel export facility called CP2 (with 20x the impact of the Willow Project) and their decision will halt 10 other similar projects currently awaiting approval. They told me this is most significant action ever taken to curb the dangerous expansion of fossil fuels, a huge win for the environmental movement, and a testament to the power activists have to make change.
Have you heard of the Protect the Owyhee Canyonlands campaign? Efforts to permanently protect the Owyhee Canyonlands in Oregon from the threats of industrial development and climate change have been underway for decades, and the Center for Western Priorities just dropped a new film about why it’s so important to protect this landscape now. Refill your coffee, cozy back up in bed and watch it here (and all of their films in their 30x30 public lands protection series!)
Colorado folks! I feel like fracking is so 2016, but here we are once again needing to protect local waterways from it. This time it’s the Aurora Reservoir—I actually used to live right by it for a bit when I lived in Colorado! You can take action here to sign a petition voicing your concerns about environmental impact.
That’s all for this newsletter, I hope you learned something new or took an easy action today. Now tuck yourself into whatever brings you a little life sparkle on this quiet Sunday.
I’ll catch you next week from the road,
Katie Boué
